My name is Koiwu Beyan and I am a Jack of all Trades, but a master of none.
I am currently working as a Technical (Lead) New Media Advisor at the U.S. Department of State with a group of developers, designers and project managers on “The Corridor,” a professional networking website.
Prior to my employment at State, I worked as a Web Designer/Developer in McLean, VA at Booz Allen Hamilton with an experienced Web 2.0 team on a Social Networking website for Booz Allen’s 20,000+ employees. The website, hello.bah.com, featured in Fortune Magazine February issue, has won several accolades, including the Open Enterprise 2009 Innovation Award.
I’ve also worked at BearingPoint, Inc. in San Diego, CA as a Team Lead for the County of San Diego Web Redesign project.
I’ve also built projects entirely on my own from start to finish, for example, supdc.com (only requiring promotional help).
I’m truly blessed to have had the opportunity to work in so many places and gotten to know a lot of great people. I’ve worked in Fortune 50 companies such as BearingPoint, DirecTV, and Booz Allen Hamilton and I’ve worked in mom and pop shops such as PrintFirm, Inc., and Red Door Interactive.
Apart from work, I spend most of my time cheering for the Los Angeles Lakers, illustrating, staying social with friends and participating in Washington, DC’s social scene, working out to clear my mind, and traveling.

HISTORY
I was born and raised in Monrovia, Liberia – but I am now a U.S. citizen. My family and I were refugees during the Liberian war and we’ve traveled and lived in a lot of different places. I went to Thomas Jefferson High School in Los Angeles, San Francisco State University and finished my education at San Diego State University. I spent approximately, 8 years in Liberia, 2 in Sierra Leone, 7 in Los Angeles, 2 in San Francisco, and 8 in San Diego, and moved to Washington, DC Metro in 2008. I’ve been exposed to a lot, and through my experiences, I’ve learned to focus on what is most important in life, and that family always comes first.
